This Smoked Sausage and Roast Potatoes recipe brings simple ingredients together in a cast-iron skillet for a satisfying weeknight dinner or a side dish on your holiday table. Italian sausage and baby potatoes are seasoned with garlic, red onions & fresh thyme and smoked over apple wood pellets in a dry white wine.

We made this recipe on the Rider DLX Pellet Grill, but you can make it on your grill or smoker.

  • 10 mild or hot Italian sausage links
  • > apple wood pellets
Sausage and Potatoes
  • 2 pounds baby potatoes, halved
  • 1 red onion, sliced
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 6 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • > fresh parsley

1. Fill the hopper with pellets and preheat your grill to 250°F in SMOKE mode.
2. Place sausage links on hot grates and cook for 10 minutes. Remove sausages from smoker and cut into 1/2-inch-thick slices. Set aside.
3. In a large cast-iron skillet, sauté the potatoes in butter until golden and crisp on the outside. Add garlic, onions, thyme, salt and pepper. Cook for 3 minutes; then stir in sliced sausages and white wine.
4. Place skillet back onto the grill grates and cook until potatoes are tender, 45 minutes to 1 hour.
5. Remove from smoker, garnish with fresh parsley and serve.
