Rider & Pellet Grill Frequently Asked Questions

How hot does the Rider get?

  • The Rider Pellet Grills can reach temperatures between 175F and 650+F. Industry-first dual-sensor temperature control gives you the edge whether you're smoking or searing. Learn more about the Rider Pellet Series here: https://bit.ly/2yqpxgA.

Do we have custom cover for the Gen2 Pellet Grills?

  • We sure do. The 6837565P04 cover fits both our Gen2 units, Gen 2 Rider 900 & Gen 2 Rider 1200.

How do I clean out the ash from firepot?

  • You first pull off the round grill grate, pull out the heat deflector, then pull out the sear/smoke louvers. Takes seconds, and there are no tools needed. You can also blow compressed air up from the ash cleanout, to clean out the burn pot, then shop vac the remains out.

What size fuse is used for the Control Board?

  • 5amp fuse is used in the Control Board.

Does this grill have a wifi app?

  • The Rider does not have a wifi app at this time.

Can I replace the controller on my Gen1 DLX with the Gen2 DLX Digital Control Board?

  • Unfortunately, no. The V2.0 control board is designed especially for the Gen2 unit and cannot replace the control board on models 20202114, 20202105, or 20202106.

What type of pellets are needed for this unit? Does it have to be OKJ Pellets?

  • Great question. Any pellets designed for pellet grills can be used with your unit. However, our units are tested with our brand and we have several flavors to choose from.

How long does it take the unit to start up?

  • At start up, once you confirm that the auger is clear by looking in the hopper, you turn the control knob on LOW and press the knob. Allow it to run for 3 minutes. Once running, look to ensure that the ignitor is glowing red inside the firepot. Allow up to 5 minutes for this to complete, then you are good to get smoking.

How often do you need to refeed the pellets while cooking with higher temps?

  • Pellets typically burn between 1-3 lbs of pellets per hour. Cooking temps will determine how quickly you need to feed them. Higher temps will cause more pellets to be needed, while at lower temps, you won't have to refill as often.

How do I manage excess grease build up?

  • Burn it off. If you are doing a lot of low-temperature cooking, there is potential for excess grease to build up on the heat baffles. To manage that grease build up, run a high heat Burn Off every couple of smoking sessions. To do a Burn Off, simply run your pellet grill on the HIGH grilling temp for 20 minutes after you’ve finished smoking. The high temperatures will vaporize grease lingering on the heat baffles before it builds up to a hazardous level.

What are the improvements/updates made for the Gen1 to the Gen2 units?

  • The digital control board has a new shutdown procedure to lessen the possibility of auger jams, updates to temp parameters that insure operation at 0 rather than 32 degrees F, a new high torque motor for jam protection & durability, new hot surface ignition supplier with improved reliability testing protocol, and an uncoated auger for improved performance/jam prevention. We know you'll love these updates.
